The background is white.
- Panel 1
Zane continues talking to himself, saying "Guess we should see if the general store is open. Get a journal with a *lock* on it, so it only opens when I --" He sees something in front of him, and abruptly stops talking. His eyes are blank and terrified, and he starts to shake all over, bringing his hands in front of him protectively. Red squiggly lines coming from his head indicate his shock. Mercy peeks out from his jacket. Behind him, the snow continues to fall, and the sky is bright.
- Panel 2.
Zane is looking at Mayor Osgood. Osgood is standing in front of him, with his eyes closed and his hands over his nose and mouth. He is wearing earmuffs, his hat and coat and a scarf. Because of the snow and wind, he appears pale, almost as if he's blending into the snow-covered buildings and landscape behind him.
- Panel 3.
Mayor Osgood comes up to Zane and smiles cheerfully, gesturing with one fist. He says, "*Merciful Mercury*, Wadsy boy! What *snow!* Wish I could spend it by the fireplace, but your Broodhollow carries on through *sleet, hail and so forth!*" Zane is still shaking slightly, and sweat is coming from his forehead as he grits his teeth in an anxious smile.
- Panel 4.
Zane looks more composed, but still worried, as he answers "I-I was actually just wondering if any places were *open* today." Osgood replies "*Ah!* My boy, I forget this is your first cold season!"
- Panel 5.
Mayor Osgood closes his eyes and looks satisfied as he says "The winters here are indeed long and cold. But few things keep a Broodhollowan from being about their business!"
- Panel 6.
He continues, "You'll find the store open! Nothing's closed or suspended today..." He leans in towards Zane, and with a conspiratorial air, whispers, in smaller text "... *Including* our scheduled meeting, just between you, me and the lamppost!" He looks off to the side, away from Zane, as he says this, and hides his mouth with his hand. Zane, his arms crossed, leans in towards Osgood, looking to the other side.
- Panel 7.
Zane, shown in silhouette, answers "I'll, uh, be there, Mr. Mayor!" Osgood, also shown in silhouette, starts walking away, saying "Good! *Good!* Well, bundle up, my boy!"
- Panel 8.
As Zane stands on the sidewalk, his arms crossed, Osgood, still walking away, continues "We haven't seen the worst of it yet!"
