|Book 1: Curious Little Thing||Page 83: Do Not Go Quietly||
The background is white.
- Panel 1
Zane, sitting back on the bench outside the library, looks down at Mercy and raising one finger, says "I'm *scared*, Mercy. What if I can't handle this on my own? I don't want night to fall. We should try to make today last as *long* as we can." Mercy sits up and looks at him as if she's listening, making a soft "eee" noise.
- Panel 2.
Zane struts down the sidewalk downtown, his arms and legs out in a comic, jaunty pose. His cheeks are bulging and his lips pursed, and he's whistling cheerily. Mercy is clinging to his shoulder. A car passes by.
- Panel 3.
Zane is sitting at a booth in a soda fountain, with Mercy sitting on the other side, her mouth open and a cheerful expression on her face. He is sipping a drink through a long, red and white striped straw, a piece of paper in front of him. The words on the window by the booth are backwards, as they'd be seen from the street, but read "Soda Fountain: Ice Cream, Phosphates, Fine Sweets."
- Panel 4.
As the sun goes down over the Broodhollow skyline, turning the twilight sky a lovely shade of purple, Zane runs blithely down a path through an area with no people or buildings, a big smile on his face. Mercy is flying behind him. In the background, lights in the buildings are starting to turn on. The background behind the panels is starting to go from white to light purple.
- Panel 5.
Zane reaches the end of the path as the sun is down and the sky is getting dark. The reader sees him looking towards something with a slight frown on his face. His arms are to his sides, his body language timid and intimidated, and Mercy clings to his shoulder, peeking from behind him. The background behind the panels is getting to be a darker shade of purple.
- Panel 6.
Zane is facing a large, Victorian-style mansion with three floors and a large tower in the middle. It has white walls and red roofs and trim. The sky is now very dark, but the moon is full and is positioned right behind the tower. There are no people to be seen, and the mansion looks quiet and intimidating. Zane starts to sweat as he looks at it, saying "We didn't do a very good job, did we?" The background behind the panels gets darker and darker, and at the bottom right side of the comic, it is entirely black.
