Extra: The First Color Test
The background is white.
A note above the panels reads: This was the first color test for Broodhollow, and almost became the first page.
- Panel 1.
Zane is sitting up in bed, a small frown on his face and lines underneath his eyes. On the nightstand next to him, an alarm clock is going off, flying cartoonishly into the air a couple of inches.
- Panel 2.
Zane makes his way towards the sink, his eyes closed and his mouth open. The top half of his face is reflected in the mirror above the sink.
- Panel 3.
He takes his toothbrush out of the cup mounted next to the sink.
- Panel 4.
His eyes are open, and he looks down with a dismayed look on his face. The previous panels have had purple backgrounds, but this one has a darker, greyish-purple background.
- Panel 5.
Zane looks down into the sink. The reader sees the scene as if we're looking from above him. There is no basin in the sink, only a large hole that's differently colored from the sink and doesn't seem like it should fit the sink. The toothbrush lies on the floor.
- Panel 6.
A close-up of the hole in the sink. It is quite wide and goes down so far that we cannot see the bottom.
- Panel 7.
This panel is about a third of the width of a normal panel. Deep from within the hole in the sink is a circle of seven light objects that may represent eyes or teeth.
- Panel 8.
Zane is sitting up in bed, his eyes opened cartoonishly wide and his jaw hanging open. On the nightstand next to him, an alarm clock is going off, flying cartoonishly into the air a couple of inches.
